Project Overview

On April 4, 2022, Wisconsin Athletics broke ground on a $40 million, 42,000 square foot expansion to the southwest end of the Kohl Center. The anticipated completion is set for the 2024 fall semester.

Wisconsin Athletics is committed to maintaining and enhancing our athletic department as one of the finest intercollegiate athletic programs in the country by providing the necessary resources for student–athletes to achieve success athletically, academically, and socially. Facilities play a major role in recruiting, training, and educating student–athletes while remaining competitive with other peer institutions.

This much–needed project will enhance amenities for our student–athletes, coaches and support staff:

  • Strength and Conditioning Center
  • Performance Nutrition Center
  • Sports Medicine Center
  • Expanded dining hall and food services for student-athletes
  • Student-Athlete Academic Center
  • Men’s and Women’s Basketball locker room improvements
  • Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball and Men’s Hockey coaches’ offices
  • Men’s and Women’s Tennis locker rooms
  • Courtside Club area on the event level for donor hospitality

The Kohl Center has held up as one of the finest and most recognizable on–campus facilities in all of collegiate athletics. Opened in 1998, the Kohl Center welcomes nearly 1 million visitors per year for Badger home games, concerts, campus celebrations and community events.

Philanthropic Support Is Needed

Private support in the form of $25 million in project–specific gifts are needed to fully fund the Kohl Center Expansion. Currently, $23 million in gifts from over 100 generous donors have been committed towards this shared goal.

All gifts to this project are 100% tax deductible and commitments can be pledged over multiple years. Individual donor recognition opportunities are available and Wisconsin Athletics will recognize all donors who give $25,000+ on a Donor Wall of Honor located at the facility upon completion.
